Ingredients
2 lb. Loaf Recipe:
- 4 cups bread flour
- 2⅔ teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1⅓ cup warm water
- 1⅓ tablespoon butter
- 1⅓ tablespoon powdered milk
- 1⅓ tablespoon sugar
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 2⅔ teaspoons garlic powder or 3 teaspoons minced garlic
1.5 lb Loaf Recipe:
- 3 cups bread flour
- 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1 cup warm water
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 tablespoon powdered milk
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 ½ teaspoons salt
- 2 teaspoons garlic powder or 3 teaspoons minced garlic
Instructions
- First of all you should gather all the ingredients and make sure that the bread machine is assembled and ready to use. The order in which the ingredients are added will depend on the model you have so just follow the instructions of your particular machine and then select the 'knead' or 'mix' function.
- After ten minutes you can open the lid and test the consistency of the dough and add flour if it is too wet or water if it is too dry. Once the dough is ready you can then select the 'basic bread' function and press Start. You should use a wire rack to cool the bread once it has finished in the machine.
Notes
Tips and Suggestions: This is a very versatile bread recipe so think about using olive oil instead of butter to give the bread Mediterranean taste. Add some parsley for an extra flavor.

Great garlic bread recipe to go with your meal.
What is the binder that holds this together since there is not an egg in the ingredients? I bake a lot of bread in our bread maker and every recipe calls for an egg. Thanks
Late to the party here, but flour, water, sugar, and yeast are all you really need to make a basic yeast bread.
Hi Joyce…my Hitachi bread maker calls for flour, salt, sugar, powdered milk, water & butter…None of my recipes call for egg and they always come out light and fluffy with a delicate crisp crust. I make other types such as cinnamon/raisin bread, cranberry bread and blueberry/candied large pineapple (for use in fruit cakes), all without using any eggs.
I have a Wolfgang Puck bistro bread machine. In the process of moving I have lost the instruction book. I have tried multiple times to get ahold of Wolfgang Puck customer service to no avail. Does anyone have the book for the bistro bread machine? I would so appreciate just the recipe for the basic white 🍞. Thank you ahead of time will appreciate it so very much.
Powdered milk is a big no no. Avoid at all costs. The bread was like sand when using powdered milk.
