Rye Bread Machine Recipe

Ingredients
2 lb. Loaf Recipe
  • 1¼ cup water
  • 1½ teaspoon vegetable oil
  • ¼ cup molasses
  • 2 cups bread flour
  • 1½ cups medium rye flour
  • ½ teaspoons of salt
  • 2½ teaspoons active yeast
1.5 lb. Loaf Recipe
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon vegetable oil
  • 3 tablespoons molasses
  • 1¾ cups bread flour
  • 1 cup medium rye flour
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons active yeast
Instructions
  1. Depending on your experience with your bread machine, you have the option of going through and adding the yeast on the bottom or waiting and adding it last. Everyone has their own preference. Go through and add all ingredients together and set machine timer accordingly: the “Wheat” setting should be perfect for good loaf of rye bread.
  2. However, rye bread will often times require more kneading than other types of bread, so give it another 2 to 3 min. in the mixing phase of the preparation process.
  3. After the designated cooking time has elapsed, remove the great smelling fresh loaf from the bread maker and allow it to cool in an open area. Freshly made rye bread is absolutely phenomenal, and you will most likely have visitors in the form of neighbors who have smelled it baking for the last 10 to 20 min.
Notes
Tips and Suggestions - those who really like a strong rye flavor may opt to add more or less rye flour to taste. Also, brushing the top crust with melted butter just as it comes out of the bread machine will lock in moisture and keep it fresh and tasty longer
